A lightweight minibus, such as the Minibus Lite, is a minibus that falls under the 3.5 tonnes (or up to 4.25 t with specialist equipment) weight limit so that it can be driven on a standard car licence in some circumstances, rather than requiring a full D1 entitlement.

Can I drive it without a D1 licence?

Yes, you can drive a Minibus Lite on your standard (car) licence without D1 entitlement if ALL the following apply: You’re at least 21 years old, you’ve held a full car licence for at least 2 years, you’re not being paid for driving (only out-of-pocket expenses allowed), driving is voluntary and the minibus is used for social/non-commercial purposes (e.g., charity, club, school travel) and the minibus has a maximum authorised mass (MAM) not more than 3.5t  - or up to 4.25t if specially equipped to carry disabled passengers (e.g., wheelchair lift)
